Two women smile at a baby lying on a bed in a bright room. One wears a pink cardigan, the other a striped shirt. Warm, joyful atmosphere.

May is International Doula Month—a time to celebrate the incredible work doulas do to nurture, empower, and uplift mothers and families during one of life's most transformative journeys. At Mama Bear & Newborn Care, we believe that doulas are not just a luxury—they are a vital part of the support system every family deserves.

What is a Doula? A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. Unlike a medical provider, a doula's role is to focus entirely on the well-being, comfort, and confidence of the birthing person and their family.

The Heart of What Doulas Bring to Mothers

  • Emotional Empowerment: Doulas offer reassurance, encouragement, and advocacy, helping mothers trust their bodies and choices throughout the birth experience.

  • Physical Support: Whether through massage, breathing techniques, labor positioning, or simply offering a calming presence, doulas are there to provide hands-on help when it’s needed most.

  • Knowledge and Preparation: From answering questions to providing evidence-based information, doulas help families feel informed and prepared for every stage.

  • Postpartum Care: The support doesn’t end after birth. Postpartum doulas offer essential help during the transition home—supporting feeding, sleep, healing, and emotional adjustment.

Doulas and the Mama Bear Newborn Care MissionAt Mama Bear & Newborn Care, we believe that every family deserves a compassionate guide throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. That’s why we’re proud to offer access to experienced birth doulas, postpartum doulas, and newborn care specialists who tailor their care to each family's needs.

Whether you’re building a birth plan, preparing for postpartum recovery, navigating newborn sleep schedules, or simply needing someone to walk beside you through the highs and lows—our doulas are here to help you feel strong, supported, and seen.

Thank You, Doulas! This month, and every month, we are endlessly grateful for the heart, wisdom, and dedication our doulas bring to the families they serve. You are changing lives—one birth, one family, one baby at a time.
