Whether you’re approaching your first birth or adding a sibling to the family, preparing for delivery is a big part of your pregnancy journey. Feeling informed and supported can make all the difference in how you experience your baby’s arrival.

Take a Birth or Newborn Care Class

Education is the first step to building confidence. A class can walk you through labor stages, delivery options, newborn care basics, and what to expect postpartum. These classes are especially helpful for partners, too!

Write Your Birth Plan

A birth plan helps communicate your preferences clearly to your provider and birth team. Include things like:

  • Preferred birth setting (hospital, home, birthing center)

  • Pain management preferences

  • Who will be present during labor and delivery

  • Skin-to-skin, delayed cord clamping, and breastfeeding preferences

Remember, birth plans are flexible—what matters most is that your voice is heard.

Pack Your Hospital Bag Early

Having your essentials ready to go makes a huge difference when baby says it’s time! Consider including:

  • A cozy robe or gown

  • Nursing bras and toiletries

  • Snacks and hydration

  • Baby’s going-home outfit

  • Phone charger, insurance documents, and birth plan

Tip: We’ve compiled all of our favorites in our Amazon list to help make packing easier!

Build Your Support System

Whether it’s a birth doula, postpartum doula, or night nurse, you don’t have to do this alone. Having a knowledgeable and compassionate support team can ease stress and allow you to focus on what matters—welcoming your new baby.
